On Friday we went to Krazy World where most of the animals were rescued. There were all sorts of animals including different species of alligators, rabbits, guinea pigs, tortoises, turtles, lizards, snakes, lamas, ponies, donkeys, goats, dwarf goats, deer, lemurs, racoons, hawks, coconut lorikeets, African grey parrots, blue-fronted Amazons, Australian king parrots, budgies, monk parakeets, rosellas, blue and yellow macaws, red and green macaws, sun parakeets, and cockatiels. I think I got most of them 🙂
The rabbits and guinea pigs were in the same enclosure and you could go in and feed them carrots. With the tortoise you could walk behind them and pet their shell. We learned that when you touch a tortoise shell, they can feel it because the shell is part of them. This tortoise was 60 years old and still could live to 120 years old! His shell grows with him as he gets older.

We got to go in the bird enclosure which included the coconut lorikeets, African grey parrots, blue-fronted Amazons, Australian king parrots, budgies, monk parakeets, rosellas, sun parakeets, and cockatiels. We got half an empty coconut on a stick filled with seeds to feed the birds. As we entered, the birds came and landed on the coconuts to eat. We could be in the bird enclosure for 20 minutes and we stayed the whole time! One of the birds name was Cromo who is aa African gray parrot and was once a loved pet. Unfortunately Cromo got lost and ended up at Krazy World who searched for his owners but the owner did not turn up so Krazy World took Cromo in.

Later, we got to feed the deer, lamas, and goats. Unfortunately it was supposed to be a petting zoo but there was no one there to let us in so we just went to the feeding spot which was a hole in the fence to stick your hand through and feed them.

We got to go on a private tour into the lemur enclosure and let the lemurs sit on our lap and eat from the bowls of food we got to hold! The lemurs names were Luigi (which was the father of all of them) and Melina who recently lost her position as queen and was trying to earn it back. Sadly, out of nowhere Melina got agitated and bit my mom on her arm and my dad twice on his arm in the same spot! The workers felt bad and offered to give the pictures they took for free. My dad’s bite was worse than my mom’s and was bleeding a little. Just to be cautious, we left early and went to a private health clinic. But luckily my dad asked for a free admission to come back another day before we left because as we were not there for too long.

I thought it was really interesting to learn that the bottom teeth of a lemur is a shape of a comb so they can easily clean their fur. Lemurs also have a second tongue that cleans fur of there comb shaped teeth. While lemurs eat, they tilt their head back because their upper lip is attached to their upper jaw. Lemurs are part of a group of primates know as prosimians. Male ring tailed lemurs compete using stink fights and the most stinky one wins! The females are the dominant ones in the troop.

Sounds like you really enjoyed being with all of the animals! It must have been a lot of fun (except for the biting of course). We think it is so funny that the males have stink contests! We-re glad people don’t! We didn’t know any of those lemur facts so thanks for sharing! So weird that they have a second tongue, we wonder how it fits in their mouth…..
