Brooklyn’s McDonalds review: Portugal

We have been in Portugal for over one month and we had not been to McDonalds for our school assignment yet. Finally on the second last evening we got to go to McDonalds for dinner. We were surprised to see that even the restaurant itself was very different than in Canada. McDonald’s Portugal was a lot fancier than McDonald’s Canada because it had a very nice outdoor area with a play structure for kids and lots of tables, comfortable chairs/benches. We also noticed that they had an area in the corner of the building that was a cafe which had a very large fancy coffee machine and pastries.

One thing we were really disappointed about was that they were out of the McBifanas which is a famous Portuguese sandwich (a Bifana is thinly cut pork loin in papo seco – Portuguese bread). We checked two McDonald’s locations but neither of them had any McBifanas so Rylee, our mom and I all tried the McCrispy Miami bacon burger (crispy chicken, cheddar cheese, back bacon, green apollo lettuce, mayonnaise on a brioche bun). Our dad tried the McCrispy Japanese sweet chili, which was basically the same as what we had, but with no bacon and with the addition of onions and sweet chili sauce.

We also each got a side of fries but sadly, similar to France they were lacking salt and a little soggy. We also had to pay 5 cents for a small packet of ketchup and had to pay more for any other sauces. Another difference I noticed was that they had a chicken ShareBox containing, chicken nuggets, chicken wings, and chicken delight (basically a chicken finger) that we all shared. For dessert Rylee and I had a Biscoff doughnut, it had a hole in the middle so we were not expecting it to be filled but it turned out that there was a ring of filling all the way around the doughnut, it was really yummy. My dad had a Berliner which is a doughnut cut in half with cream piped in it, I am not sure why this doughnut was here because Berlin is the capital of Germany. For our drink we ordered Sumol Pineapple, which is a Portuguese soda. We had almost all the flavors of Sumol in our time in Portugal which included pineapple, lemon, passion fruit, and orange my favorite flavor was lemon, the only one that we didn’t find anywhere was apple.

Sounds and looks really good! It’s too bad you didn’t get to try that sandwich but looks like you made a good choice with your chicken burger. I wonder why you have to pay for ketchup and sauces there. The drinks sound delicious too
