Bangkok Highlights

Did you know Bangkok has over 17 million people, that’s 42.5% of Canada’s population! We were staying in Bangkok for seven days, so we tried to get a lot done. In these 7 days we went to:

  • Jurassic World: The Experience- They treated us like we were visitors to Jurassic World, first we took a ferry to the park where we saw whales jumping and waving their tails (the windows were screens) we walked past brachiosaurus, ankylosaurus, raptors, and at the indominus rex cage. There the power went out and the dinosaurs escaped! We had to run through the aviary full of pterodactyls and ended up back outside. Then a t-rex jumped out of the bush and we escaped into the gift shop. They tried to recreate Jurassic Park, and it looked very real!
  • The Ancient City- The Ancient City relocated and recreated monuments from around Thailand and the park was shaped like the country of Thailand. They also had elephants and our parents paid to get some food to feed them with! Later we figured out that they had baby elephants and you could feed them but we had already paid to feed the other elephants which was still so much fun! They had a little floating market and we found a craft shop so our mom painted a hat for me, our dad painted a lotus candle, Brooklyn painted a hat for herself, and I painted a small umbrella.

  • Hop on and off boat tour- We sailed boats up and down Chao Phraya River where we stopped at Wat Arun which is a Buddhist temple, the flower market, and IconSiam (more info below). At the flower market we found the best smoothie store ever! It’s called Coco Mood, we tried to search it up to see if it was a chain but not even the one we went to came up!
  • IconSiam – IconSiam is a huge mall, and in the basement area there is a souk, with foods, shops, handmade crafts, and more! We had dinner and many desserts, like mango sticky rice, durian ice cream, and slushies! IconSiam is one of the biggest malls in the world.
  • Bike and food tour – We biked around Bangkok stopping to eat different foods and to look at landmarks.
  • Cooking class – We stared by going to the market to get our ingredients for the dishes. We cooked five meals, including Pad Thai (I had chicken instead of shrimp), Green papaya salad, Spicy (or not spicy) sour shrimp soup (again I had chicken instead of shrimp), Masaman curry paste which went on top of the Masaman curry with chicken and potatoes, and mango sticky rice. Our dad does not like mango so he ate the sticky rice and our mom ate the mango.
  • Lumpini park- A park full of Asian Water Monitors the monitors were swimming around in the lake and relaxing on the shore, we even spotted a few babies!
  • Floating market- We could only access parts of the market by boat. About two minutes after we got on the boat, we spotted a lady on a boat selling coconut ice cream. So our parents bought all of us a coconut full of coconut ice cream! We continued down the river when I spotted a really cute elephant wallet, I really liked it but it was quite expensive so our dad bartered down the price, so I ended up buying it! When we were leaving the market we took a quick stop to buy some Thai pancakes. (They kind of looked like mini tacos)
  • Railway market- The Railway market is built on train track that’s still in use. The train has specific times, so as a five minute warning a person rings the bell to warn the other shops that its five minutes until the train arrives. Once the bell is rung the shops start bringing in their signs and tarps so that the train can fit in. The train came through the market a lot tighter and slower then I would have expected.
The shops closing for the train
  • Dragon temple- The Dragon temple is a really cool building where a dragon is wrapped around the whole 17 story building. In many photos the dragon temple is pink, but we saw a photo of a building that was red and thought it was fake, when we actually got there it was red, we figured that it was newly painted. There is a ramp all the way up through the dragon’s body.
  • Safari Park- At Safari park we got to hold and feed a baby tiger!! Instead of the tiger our dad decided to hold an orangutan. We also got to feed giraffes and mini horses and there was a baby mini horse! In a bird show I got picked as a volunteer and a sun parakeet landed on my arm! Then I got picked again as a volunteer along with Brooklyn and we got to hold a ring for a hawk to fly through!

Wow Rylee, Bangkok sounds like an incredible experience. You’re learning to cook so many new things. The sticky rice and mango looks so beautiful and yummy. The Jurassic World sounds so cool to see in person since you watched the movie. You are getting some real hands on experience with so many animals and birds.
