Competing with markets and restaurants
Did you know McDonald’s did not open in Vietnam until 2014? This was because in Vietnam there are many local markets where you can eat heathier and way cheaper. It is hard for a big company like McDonalds’s and KFC to survive in countries with better options like markets. KFC adapted to Vietnam and brought in many local dishes making it a much more popular choice among local groups.
Food
My mom and I were not very hungry after a large lunch during our tour, so we had smoothies instead of something big like a burger. I got a kiwi yogurt smoothie and my mom had a pineapple yogurt smoothie. We both enjoyed it very much (my mom actually admitted she liked it even though she is usually very stubborn and says McDonalds suck’s). As a side, Rylee, my mom, and I had shaker fries which were plain fries that you dumped in a paper bag with cheese flavor seasoning and shook it together to cover all the fries. It was very cheesy and delicious!

Rylee is always hungry so she also had a McRoyal deluxe burger that had pickles, mayonnaise, cheese, tomato and shredded lettuce. When I asked Rylee what she thought about it she said “it was good, it had pickles on it”. My dad had a big mac with the seasonal twister fries. We all shared chicken nuggets that were supposed to be shaped like stars and hearts (although they did not look very much like stars and hearts).
Drinks
My dad had a strawberry McFizz which was a strawberry flavored drink with real strawberries in it which my dad enjoyed although he did not like the mushy strawberries. Rylee had a peach iced tea that had real large peach chunks which she says was delicious!

Differences
Some differences are that the location we went to was four floors high, which I thought was weird because McDonald’s had struggled in Vietnam but it was the biggest McDonalds’s we have seen on the trip. The cheese fries were also different because we have not seen them anywhere else this trip. Another thing I noticed is that they had a whole rice menu with different kinds of meat. I thought it was interesting that they had a salad that came in a cup.

Wow you are so lucky to celebrate so many new years this year. The 12 animals in there calender seems really strange to me. The bus tour sounds fun they have so many great flowers there. I love fireworks, the Asian cultures love fireworks. Does McDonald’s food taste the same there or is it different Oma wants to know. We love you and miss you. Opa & Oma
