Visiting Zoomarine – September 18, 2025

I really enjoyed going to Zoomarine because we got to learn about animals and have fun in the water! To start off our day while we waited for an animal show to begin, we walked through the butterfly enclosure where they were all different colors and shades. There was one green butterfly that could not fly and was in the middle of the path so Rylee let the butterfly crawl onto her finger and she brought it to a safer spot.

Next we went to the aquarium and looked at all the the beautiful animals including sea horses, clown fish, angel fish, eagle rays, underwater sandworms, and lots more. Underwater sandworms were interesting because they looked almost like small eels that pop out of the sand but spend most of their lives under the sand.

When it was time for the bird show, we hurried over to get seats. Each type of bird did something different to display their talents. One of the birds called a Seriema took a toy lizard and threw it down many times. The presenter said that it was because in the wild they used this method to kill their prey. Another bird that had a cool talent was a crow where the presenter had a volunteer hold out money and the crow snatched it and brought it to the guide. Then the crow returned the person’s money. The hawk was really funny because every time the presenter looked away, the hawk would run out and steal something the presenter was using.

After the bird show, we headed back to the aquarium and fed eagle rays and sting rays. They each were fed in a different way, for the eagle rays, we had to hold the piece of fish against the wall and then they would grab it. For the stingray, we had to flip them over and drop it into their mouths.

Next we went to the dolphin show which was my favourite part of the day! The dolphins did tricks like flips and jumps! It was amazing how the dolphins understood the actions the trainers were giving them. Something that I found really cool was when one of the trainers pretended to be drowning, the dolphins came and pushed the trainer safely to land. Bottlenose dolphins are really smart and are one of the few animals that can recognize themselves in a mirror.

To cool off we got ice cream before heading to the last animal show which was about California seals and California sea lions. We learned the differences between seals and sea lions. Some ways were that seals were smaller and sea lions were bigger, and that seals have ear holes while sea lions have ear flaps. Another thing that we learned was how to tell male sea lions from female sea lions. You can tell because females are a lighter color and significantly smaller than males.

Then we went to the pirate show where people dressed up as pirates did flips, handsprings, cartwheels and show fighting. There was also a hidden trampoline that they did amazing tricks on.

Lastly we went down fun water slides where we were on tubes and went down the lazy river multiple times. We finished our day by going on a double decker merry-go-round and ferris wheel.

That sounds like so much fun. I love dolphin shows. I knew they were smart but I didn’t know they can recognize themselves, interesting 🤔. I also never knew the difference between seals and sea lions were their ears! I’m sure the lazy river and water slides was a good way to end the day.

Wow, lots of different animals and lots to see! Are the sand worms like the creatures in Ursula’s garden in The Little Mermaid?

The hawk sounds funny. Water slides and rides sound like a great way to end off the day!

I do not know if they are the same, I looked up a picture to try to tell but in all the pictures the creatures were animated so I could not tell.
