Floating at the Dead Sea

The Dead Sea is known as the Dead Sea because it is so salty, no living creature can live in it. We went to the Dead Sea to see it but also to test out if our Dad could float( because usually he just sinks). The salt causes things to float because it causes the water to become denser, making it buoyant. It was amazing how good it made us float! It was even hard to put our feet down without them popping up again. Even my Dad did not sink, we literally could roll along the top of the water without sinking which should not be possible!

It was a once in a life time experience to be able to go to the Dead Sea and it was so fun and I will probably never do anything like it again. It was also a unique thing to do because we got to coat ourselves in mud that had been collected from the sea and is supposed to be great for our skin because it has so many minerals in it. The only thing that I did not like, was that when it got into our eyes, it burned really bad. Also, we’ve been spending a ton of time in the sun so my skin was dry so it stung.

The Dead Sea has been going down three feet a year because Syria and Israel each built a dam in the 1960s, preventing flow into the Jordan river (which flows into the Dead Sea). We saw how much the Dead Sea has shrunk over years when we finally reached the end of the Dead Sea after driving for a while. Google Maps showed that it went on for quite some time which is how long it was when Google Maps was last updated. The area that used to be part of the sea was completely dry with no sign of past water.

I really enjoyed our few days at the Dead Sea. I also liked that our resort had nice pools where I could play and swim for hours.

Floating in the sea must have been so much fun seeing all the biblical places is so amazing I’m sure you must have lived that. The mud was a cool thing as well. It’s so sad about the dead sea shrinking. The pools at the resort must have been very refreshing after the long day.

You poor girl, getting salt in your eyes. That must have really hurt. I hope you had a towel close by to wipe off the salt.
Floating in the water feels really neat. That must have been fun to do. We had that kind or similar mud at lester beach in a certain place. Do you remember there would be kids walking around with mud all over? How did you like getting dirty and dry?
I’m looking forward to hearing of your next adventure. Love you and miss you.

The salt really did hurt my eyes, I did not use a towel but there was a freshwater hose that I used to get the salt out. I do not remember that, but I thought being covered in mud was a little gross. We did not wait till the mud dried but when we washed off the mud our skin was really smooth. I love you and miss you too.

Sounds like a lot of fun! Except for the stinging part…. a very cool experience. It ‘s too bad that it is getting smaller, that’s sad, it’s such a unique place.

It was lots of fun! We are glad that we got to experience it before all the water is gone.
